Sydney Long, Australian Artist

Exhibiting from November through December is the paintings of Sydney Long. He is an early 1900 century Australian artist whose prolific works poetically portrays the landscapes of Australia  as well as reflect the Art Nouveau style of the time period.

Art Nouveau is a style of art that is inspired by the curves of flowers and plants, natural forms but expressed in curved lines. It is a philosophy of a lifestyle that encompassed in all areas of art - architecture, furniture design, landscapes....

What caught my eye when I was scrolling through Pinterest is his landscapes. Whether in oils or watercolor, Sydney Long captured the spirit of Australia. Whether it's the mountains faraway or the buildings in a city or the seashore, he does not simply paints what he sees but what he feels. There a sense of transcendency, an escape from reality as expressed through the nude figures of boys playing in the water. Sydney Long was known as the Poet's Painter. Lobo Saintori, "Perceptions"

Lobo Saintori "Perceptions" is now exhibiting for July and August. Through his photography eye, he captures glimpses of views of slices of life as he perceives it. I had a chance to meet this wonderful photographer. Answering questions that I had for him, Lobo reveals how he got started and why he takes photos . . . What is your very first camera? My aunt's. An old  Invikta TL. I still have it. It was made around 1973 and she gave it to me for my 14th birthday in 1979.  Do you own more than one camera?  If so, which one is your favorite? Yes, I have a collection of antique cameras and also several I use regularly. I would have to say my Cannon 7D mark II is my favorite.  What were your first pieces like? I did the usual surprise photos around the house of my mother and grandmother, much to their dismay, but my first real photos were landscapes. I always loved hiking and would walk the hills of Northern New Jersey where I grew up and take pict...

The Lyrical Abstractions of Ieko Catnap

Ieko Catnap is an artist from France. I had first seen her abstracts at the former Kriss Museum in Second Life. I was drawn to her expressive brushstrokes and use of colors to create an ethereal quality. Though well trained in classical realism, as Ieko had shown me an earlier work that reminded me of the Renaissance, her mastery is striking in the abstracts. Catnap's abstracts follows the style of the lyrical abstractions. It is part of the  French modern art movement that reflects the style of American Abstract Expressionism - expressive, spontaneous, reacting from within . . . I am an eclectic artist and if I have to choose a style I prefer it would be Expressionism because one of the most important goals for me is the communication of emotions through my work without being subject to a strict 'realistic' representation.
